SUMMARY:ESE Auckland - Fire Engineering for Structural Engineers
DESCRIPTION:SESOC Emerging Structural Engineers Network Auckland – \n“Fire Engineering for Structural Engineers” \n  \nWednesday 11th September \nNetworking from 5.30pm \nPresentation Starts at 6pm followed by food and drinks \n  \nUniversity of Auckland\, Faculty of Science Building\, Room 302-G20 \nSESOC Emerging Structural Engineers (ESE) Network are proud to present the first presentation as part of our new initiative; The Integrated Design Series. This will provide a series of presentations from different consultants that structural engineers regularly collaborate with throughout the design process. The first of these presentations in Auckland will be led by Martin Feeney of Holmes Fire on ‘Fire Engineering for Structural Engineers’. Keep an eye out for similar presentations being rolled out throughout New Zealand in the near future. \n  \nIn this presentation Martin will describe the key effects of fire on steel\, concrete and timber structures and how structural engineers can effectively work together with fire engineers to ensure economical solutions. With structural steel and heavy timber becoming more widely used\, it’s increasingly important to understand the impact of fire on structures and how this integrates with structural design to provide effective and coordinated solutions to maintain structural stability during a fire. \n  \nIf you are planning on attending\, please RSVP using the link below: \nRSVP Link \n  \nMartin Feeney BE(Civil)\, MEFireE \nPrincipal\, Holmes Fire \nMartin Feeney practised as a structural engineer with Holmes Consulting Group for more than 20 years. After two years on secondment to HERA\, specialising in analysis and design of steel structures in earthquake and fire he started the Auckland office of the international consulting fire engineering firm Holmes Fire where he is a Principal and Senior Fire Engineer. \nHe is passionate about performance-based design generally and has developed expertise in performance-based fire safety design for a wide range of building types. His special interest is assessing performance of structures when exposed to fire. He has carried out designs on projects in New Zealand\, Australia\, Spain\, California and New York to establish appropriate performance-based solutions for the fire performance of steel structures.
