DESCRIPTION:Please pre-register by contacting Pervin Suntoke (p.Suntoke@auckland.ac.nz) for catering purposes and to ensure the selected room is large enough. \nLogistics \n\nRoom ALR5/421W-301 in the University of Auckland Architecture Facility.\nDate: Tuesday 15 May 2018\nStart at 6.00pm.\nRefreshments from 5.30pm.\nNo charge\, but pre-registration requested.\nAny questions – contact John Scarry (021) 1874-327\, jmscarry@xtra.co.nz\n\nThe format of the 15 May 2018 SESOC mentoring event in Auckland will consist of: \n\nMentors\, who will make short introductory statements\, then field questions from the audience\,\nAs many graduate and intermediate structural engineers who can fit into the lecture theatre\,\nOpen questions from the floor\, with no set agenda\, other than specific technical questions cannot be addressed\,\nAlthough aimed at structural engineers\, some other related civil fields such as geotechnical may find the session worthwhile.\n\nThe mentors have between them experience in: \n\nWorking as consulting structural engineers\, in firms of all sizes\, from the largest multi-disciplinary companies to sole practice\, both in NZ and overseas\,\nDesign and construction experience from houses through to the largest commercial\, industrial and infrastructure developments\,\nThe full range of work a structural engineer will do\, from checking shop detail drawings through to leading the design and construction of major projects\, to acting as expert witnesses\, sitting on standards committees\, and attempting to shape policy at Central Government level\,\nMentoring young engineers within their own companies.\n\nThe mentors will include: \n\nPaul Campbell\, former President of SESOC\, National Technical Director – Building Structures – WSP|Opus\,\nGeorge Downey\, Director\, Lough Downey Ltd\,\nNick Gillespie\, Structural Practice Leader NZ – Mott MacDonald\,\nJohn Mitchell\, Manager – Structural Engineering\, Dodd Civil Consultants Ltd\,\nStephen Power\, Regional Leader – Northern\, Calibre Consulting (possible)\,\nJohn Scarry\, John Scarry Engineering.\n\nHopefully\, the open forum and multiple mentors will provide a range of problems and questions that some attendees will not have thought of\, and a range of advice that one mentor alone could not give. \n
