SUMMARY:SESOC Seminar Nelson - Detailed Engineered Timber Design
DESCRIPTION:SESOC Seminar – Detailed Engineered Timber Design:\n1. Durability and Moisture Management\n2. Realising Design Impacts on Build Costs\n \nJuly 22\, 2024 (Monday)\nNelson\nTides Hotel\, 66 Trafalgar St. The Wood\nNelson \nRegistration 12:45 pm\nThe seminar starts at 1:00 pm\nThe Seminar finishes at 5:00 pm \nJoin Bjørn Stankowitz and Andy van Houtte when they present Detailed Engineered Timber Design – focusing on two topics: \n\nDurability & moisture management\nRealising design impact on building costs\n\nThe two topics in this seminar can influence the viability of a timber project and be vital for the immediate and long-term success of a timber building. This will be a great discussion as these topics are often considered after structural design of a building rather than in conjunction with the design process. \nIn February\, Bjørn did an introductory presentation on moisture management which you can watch here. Bjørn will provide a thorough discussion about durability and moisture management at the seminar in July. \nAlso this seminar\, Andy Van Houtte will cover the following topics below to help answer the question ‘What design decisions impact the cost of timber building the most?’ \n\nDesign conundrums\nTimber building systems cost comparison\nMaterial and fixing capacity cost ratios\nConnections and CNC costs\nLabour/cranage/transport costs\nConstruction costs impacted by design\nSupply chain overview\nCost of moisture ingress during construction\n\nBy incorporating these thorough processes\, designers can not only safeguard structures but also deliver projects that meet developers’ needs for speed and efficiency. \nThis seminar is suitable for engineers at all experience levels. \nCheck out this brochure for more details \nRegister Now!\nSingle Registration\nGroud Registration \nInvestment details\nSESOC & TDS members – $400 + GST\nNon-members – $480 + GST \nFor any inquiries\, please contact Cheryll at info@cwevents.co.nz \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us on November 6\, 2023 at the Ellerslie Event Centre Auckland for a day conference on Protecting structures from fire. \nThe speakers at this conference are Hamish Denize & Paul Horne of Beca\, Tess Beetham of Aurecon\, Andy Buchanan of PTL NZ and Professor Charles Clifton of the University of Auckland\, Gath Moran of Carbolin\, Alex Kokorin of Fire TS Laboratory\, Frank Kang of Winston Wallboards Ltd\, René Hill of Southern QA Ltd and Raed El Sarraf of WSP. \nHosted by Stewart Hobbs of Proconsult \nFire engineering is often seen as a dark art\, sometimes resulting in strange requirements. This stems from deficient consulting from fire engineers and from misunderstandings of the objectives and scope of fire engineering. This conference will: \n\nexplain the basics of Fire Engineering 101 around the scope\, objectives and compliance pathways/documents.\ncover the role and responsibilities of the structural engineer with respect to design\, coordination and documentation to meet the requirements of the fire report. A high-level overview of compliance pathways will be given followed by key tips and tricks from an experienced consulting engineer.\ncover review of fire safety in mass timber buildings\, show structural calculations for fire resistance of mass timber elements and a lot more.\nprovide an introduction to fire resistance testing\, its benefits and limitations\, and discuss intumescent coating systems in New Zealand and the New Zealand International Convention Centre project.\n\n  \nPlease check out this brochure to learn more about this conference. \nRegister Now! \nFor group registration\, please use this link. \n  \nRegistration fees:\nSESOC & ACA member – $600 + GST\nNon-member – $680+GST \nFor more details\, check out this brochure. \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:SESOC Seminar Whangarei – Seismic Soil-Structure Interaction: Part 1 – Shallow Foundations
DESCRIPTION:October 31\nWhangarei \nPlease note that this is a morning seminar\nRegistration at 8:30 am\nSeminar starts at 8:45 am\nSeminar ends at 1:15 pm \n  \nJoin us in October 2023 as SESOC and New Zealand Geotechnical Society collaborate in presenting a seminar on Seismic Soil-Structure Interaction: Part 1 – Shallow Foundations \nSoil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI) is present on all soil sites and can play a significant role in the seismic performance of a building. \nJoin our speakers Stuart Oliver and Maxim Millen as they cover the benefits and drawbacks of nonlinear SFSI mechanisms. The seminar will focus on the inclusion of SFSI within the NZ Seismic Assessment Guidelines procedure. They will also cover the proposed changes for NZS1170.5 for rocking foundations. \nThis seminar is suitable for engineers at all experience levels\, especially Structural engineers designing low\, mid and high-rise buildings and Geotechnical engineers involved in designing shallow foundations. \nRegister Now!\nFor group registration\, please use this link \nRegistration fees:\nSESOC/NZGS members – $400 + GST per person\nNon-members – $480 + GST per person \nFor more details\, check out the brochure
