Standards New Zealand are currently seeking public comment on a draft update of the specification for concrete production, NZS 3104. As per their recent email:

NZS 3104:2003 Specification for concrete production sets the minimum requirements for the production of fresh concrete. The standard was last amended in 2010 (Amendment No. 2) to incorporate more than one type of mechanism used for weigh systems. The much-needed revision of NZS 3104 will update the standard to align with current practice and allow for better control of the manufacture of concrete.

This revision of NZS 3104:2003 Specification for concrete production will reflect current recognised practice and will:

  • allow an alternative method to calculate target mean concrete compressive strength based on normal distribution theory in clause 2.13
  • update other clauses throughout the standard relating to the introduction of the alternative method
  • clarify and update clauses throughout the standard to reflect current practice and technology.

We are now making the draft available for public comment for a period of 8 weeks. All comments submitted during this period are reviewed by the standards development committee before the standard is balloted on.

You can view or download this draft standard on the Standards New Zealand website. The closing date for comments is 21 June, 2020.
